Singin’ in 2020

When I was selecting songs for GRCC Shades of Blue for Fall 2020, “Singin’ in the Rain” was the first arrangement I chose. For many reasons, including:

  1. It’s a killer a cappella jazz chart – swinging, great harmony, fun to sing.
  2. April Tini had a major influence in introducing me to this musical genre and setting me on my career path. I love to program her arrangements whenever possible.
  3. Singing in the rain seemed like precisely what we’re trying to do in making singing groups happen – in some way – in 2020. The rain’s pretty hard, but we’re singing anyway.

Enjoy my students singing this great arrangement of “Singin’ in the Rain.” I am so proud of their hard work this semester, and of the wonderful final product! All the voices were recorded in their own homes, mostly just into the iPhone voice memo app. I engineered, mixed, and did the videography.

This is the first of three pieces we recorded “together” this semester. Stay tuned for the other two!
