Bravo to the entire operation involved in putting She Loves Me on Broadway and then live streaming it last night at BroadwayHD.
Aside from some streaming problems early in the show, the show appeared flawlessly in our family room, direct from Studio 54 on Broadway.
Everything about this performance was charming, from sets and costumes, choreography and staging, to exquisite performances from the entire cast, including Laura Benanti, Zachary Levi, and Gavin Creel. While every scene was better than the one before, I was particularly taken with Benanti’s wonderful singing, which shows there’s still something besides belting on Broadway.
This was the first-ever live stream of a Broadway show, and I hope that they continue to work on presenting more such opportunities, as they have from the Met Opera for a decade.
Roundabout Theatre, which produced She Loves Me, seems the ideal collaborator – they and a nonprofit who generally produce limited runs of classic plays and musicals; a live simulcast in the last few weeks of She Loves Me‘s run will do little to affect ticket sales and was a great opportunity for Broadway fans across the country to enjoy a top-notch show in real time.
Bravo again to the cast, creative team, crew, and leaders who made this happen. I’m so glad I got to be there for it and can’t wait for the next one!
She Loves Me will be available to re-watch until July 7.
