It’s my end-of-school-year tradition to publish the repertoire my ensemble sang over the year. With my fifth (!) year at GRCC in the books, here are the pieces Shades of Blue learned and performed.
Shades of Blue had five singers in the fall semester and eleven singers in the winter. We had fine student rhythm section players both semester and were able to collaborate (*) with the GRCC jazz ensemble each semester.
The year also featured several premieres arranged by me [#].
Fall Semester Repertoire
The fall choral concert was themed around Día De Los Muertos, which brought us the opportunity to perform two Spanish-language pieces, including my new setting of Remember Me from Pixar’s Coco.

Winter Semester Repertoire
This semester brought an influx of excited new students, so we dove into all-new repertoire, and additionally spent a good bit of our time on a jazz solo project – coaching from me, a recital in class, and several featured at both of our Jazz night concerts this semester.
Me & Julio Down By The Schoolyard – Paul Simon, Arr. Darmon Meader [Hal Leonard]
A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square – Maschwitz & Sherwin, Arr. Gene Puerling [Hal Leonard]
Rock-A-Bye Baby – Traditional, Arr. Michele Weir [MichMusic.com]

We recorded both semesters – Remember Me and What’ll I Do? in the fall and Brave and You’d Be So Nice To Come Home To in the winter.
