Round Trips Are Different Each Way

A while back, I noticed something peculiar about my drive to the library.

On the way there, I would stop at 6 stop signs and two lights. Returning home, I would hit the same two lights–and zero stop signs.

Sometimes the direction you’re driving makes as big a difference as the route. Journeys can look different depending on which way you’re going.

It’s true that many of our journeys are round-trip, so we have to be prepared for both halves. But there’s a big chance to not anticipate these differences when you’re planning your journey and being pleasantly or unpleasantly surprised.

It’s not just road trips, of course. The same is true for the journey of a school year, of developing a skill, of raising a child.
