You develop habits because they help you. (Even bad habits help you, in ways you don’t want to acknowledge…)
But rethinking habits (even good ones) every so often can be a good thing. You might find that you’ve maintained a habit long after it’s stopped working for you in your current state.
- A morning writing regimen needed rethinking when my kids were all in school.
- A semi-regular trip to a warehouse store stopped making sense in the schedule – until it did again, and I reacquired the habit.
- Weekly grocery runs might not work best on the day you usually do them – should you alter the habit?
It’s now two weeks until New Year’s Eve – that day of resolving to acquire new good habits.
But take a minute or two to rethink the habits you currently have–perhaps some of them don’t work anymore, but you are still doing them habitually.
