Just a little pet peeve as I begin working on another round of band charts for our Fall Cabaret.
I would say that over 90% of the songs we heard in auditions ended with the instructions “Repeat and Fade.” Can we agree that, even if that is an accurate representation of the original recording, it is almost never an effective way to end a song in performance?
If the published version of the song is actually intended for public performance, it should be in the publisher’s job description to figure out how to end it. (I tend to look for live performances of the song on YouTube and see if the original artist can help.)
It’s one of my top three biggest frustrations with published piano/vocal editions of pop songs. Stay tuned for the others!
