Relinquish Decision Making

One of the best parts of traveling with a choir is relinquishing decision making.

Yes, there’s a lot of work and responsibility involved in touring with a choir. But once you get off the plane or bus in your tour destination, someone else is making the majority of the decisions. (This assumes you’re using a tour manager who has planned and will guide you through the tour. And that’s the only way to travel with an ensemble, in my opinion).

The choir director’s life is filled with decisions, and the buck always stops at your music stand. Having a few days when you’ve got someone else handling most of the decisions is a blessing even beyond the joys of travel.

This can be true in personal travel days, too – it’s a lot more blissful to travel when you accept that someone else is making the calls. Put your earplugs in and sit at the gate waiting for your plane – there’s a certain kind of peace there.
