The gift, and the ever-present challenge, of performance-based music classes is the performance. There comes a day when you have to put it out there – whatever the condition, whether you need another week or not.
But consider the multitude of musicians, artists, novelists, and other creative-types who never put their work out there. They have no concert to aim for, no deadline waiting. Because of that, their art often can fade away without making an impact.
So although I often wish for one more rehearsal to polish my music-making before the concert, I am always thankful for the concert around the corner. Because imperfect work shared with the world is preferable to perfect art that never gets made.
