Pre-Premiere

A piece and your ensemble’s relationship with it will continue to evolve after its first performance. Best to let that evolution happen before the official premiere!

Premiere performances can bring a lot of stress.

The performers feel a duty to bring the piece to life in its first performance. There may be financial supporters or even the composer in the audience. No one has a frame of reference, so the premiere will necessarily write the first word on the piece.

That’s why I think it’s essential to give some type of pre-premiere performance of pieces, when possible.

This could be a friends-and-family preview, or a run out concert, or performing excerpts in concert before the actual premiere.
