Maybe you’re starting a New Year’s resolution that involves more consistent practice. It’s certainly a common one, and a worthy goal.
It’s important to maintain this mindset as you set off towards more regular practicing: don’t expect results.
I mean, of course expect results. But don’t be tied to them, especially in the short term. Practicing is cumulative, and you might see results only after weeks or months of consistent practice – results that will happen “all at once” after day after day of no apparent growth.
If you are tied to seeing results right away, you’re far more likely to quit right away. Instead, commit to the practice of regular practice, without any expectation of growth today or tomorrow, and just trust in the back of your mind that the growth, is happening, invisibly, and will be sped along by your new practice regimen.
