Perspectives

I solved a puzzle magazine math contest last night, involving seven- and ten-digit numbers with particular properties. It was fun and a brain break, since the thinking was so different from my work.

But I noticed that it became solvable only when I found the right perspective to look at it. From the first few angles I tried, it seemed an impossibly huge task to solve; when I found the right perspective, the challenge became much more manageable.

That’s the truth with most problems: until you find the right perspective on them, they can seem insurmountable, but when you do, everything can click into a place. There’s still work to do, but it’s reasonable.

What problem are you facing now that might benefit from a perspective shift?
