A lot of people are taking up new music practices this spring. Learning new instruments, learning to sing, writing songs, or learning new repertoire.
It’s a good reason to remember this truth: Perfect is a trap.
Perfect is unattainable, and if you wait for your art to be perfect, you’ll never share your art with people.
Of course, have standards, and of course learn from each project to make the next one better. Of course, aim for quality.
But aim for sharing, too. Because almost perfect but only in your room isn’t nearly as worthwhile as pretty good and in the world.
Actually, now is the perfect time to share your art – everyone is experiencing the same strange present, and will welcome your new creative outlets.
Don’t wait for it to be perfect. Keep making your art.
