Today was one of those days where the mundane crowded out the creative.
In the midst of many important jobs that didn’t require my musical creativity, I found 4 minutes to be in front of my notation software. I pulled up my current project, hit the playback, and listened. I changed the rhythm of one spot in the score, then I shut it down to get to the next job.
Obviously, I can’t make a career out of four minutes a day. But in between the busy writing days, those four minutes kept me afloat and connected to the music I’m creating.
Maybe you didn’t have time for a long creative session today – practice, writing, reading. What short moment can you find to at least feel connected to your creative work?
