The coming revolution in online class offerings will be great for arts in schools.
Right now, I regularly see students drop choir because they need to take, say, an algebra class. Or because they want a more rigorous academic transcript for college applications.
In five years, those students who are self-motivated will take academic classes online to leave room in their schedule for more of their passion during the school day. Maybe take band and choir. Or two choirs.
A high school like Rockford will become a performing arts high school, a trade school, a math & science magnet, and more – with students getting to spend more time on their passion as they complete state-required coursework outside the school day.
Online classes will be great for arts in schools.
