On A Chanticleer Day

A brand new arrangement from Gene Puerling dropped today, courtesy of Chanticleer!

Gene Puerling is a towering presence in the world of jazz and choral arranging.

Having passed away just over 15 years ago, I wouldn’t have expected to hear brand new Puerling arrangements today; but a discovery in the Chanticleer archive has brought to a light this marvelous “new” arrangement of Lerner & Lane’s “On A Clear Day.”

It’s classic Puerling – the interpolation of “Blue Skies”, the rich harmonies and surprise reharmonizations.

What a blessing to have this new music from this towering figure, sung so beautifully by Chanticleer.

(And once you’re done bathing in that gorgeous sound, don’t miss the other Puerling on the album, Stormy Weather, or the beautiful new arrangement of Both Sides Now by Vince Peterson.)
