Observe Your Peers

We tend to want to watch the superstars. Often, we’re better if we observe our peers.

The superstars are amazing, and do remarkable work. But sometimes their work can be so seamless that we can’t see how they do it. If you take some time to watch your peers at work, the following things will happen:

  1. Empowerment. You’ll see them solve a problem the same way you would have, letting you know you’re on the right track.
  2. Enlightenment. You’ll see them solve a problem in a way you never tried, giving you something new to do.
  3. Encouragement. You’ll see them fail to solve a problem you’ve solved; you’ll see them fail to solve a problem that you can’t solve, either.

Watching your peers work is empowering, enlightening, and encouraging–sometimes much more so than watching the superstars.
