I don’t understand people programming in the summer.
I can do some planning before I see my ensembles, but until I see them in person, I don’t really know what music will be the right music to program. I don’t even know how I could know.
Programming should reflect the interests, needs, and voices of your ensemble. Until you have your ensemble, you’re just groping in the dark for a light switch.
I finalized my ensemble on Wednesday. Now I can choose repertoire that will give them the best possible musical, educational, and social experience. Now I can program.
