It might take a snow day (or two in a row!) to remember that you’re not as in control as you think.
In our climate-controlled, rigidly scheduled, satellite-beamed lives, you can feel like how your spend your hours and minutes is decided by you, alone.
But a snow day can remind you, you’re only partially in control: external forces, including some in no one’s control, are sometimes the real boss.
I think we can stand to remember that in rehearsal, too. A friend used to have a theory that one college ensemble had its best rehearsals when it was raining. (Something about the humidity, as I recall). Precipitation, temperature, amount of daylight, cloud cover: these things can all have an impact on the success of your rehearsal.
Don’t be fooled into thinking that you are entirely in control.
