Today at the Jazz Education Network Conference they had their annual Vocal Jazz Reading Session. Unlike in typical choral reading sessions, the JEN session (and IAJE before it) features a lineup of about a dozen vocal jazz heavy hitters, who are able to give respectable performances of music that’s really too tough to sight read (that way, the people in attendance can sing along with a solid live performance). I remember it as a highlight of my attendance at the conferences – watching these leading lights giving of their gifts to help vocal jazzers discover new repertoire. I was so impressed.
So it’s hard being half a continent away as that group read through my own arrangement of Fly Me To The Moon today. I got to hear a little clip from a friend and was just thrilled to be a part of the 2022 edition of this session I have loved for so long.
So today is a perfect day to celebrate that there are now three of my arrangements published by Anchor Music. I think so highly of what Matt and Jessica Falker are doing with Anchor Music and am delighted to be on their roster of artists.
