I’ve decided not to wait until I can give anything my undivided attention.
My attention is always divided. So is yours. Between current projects, upcoming projects, housework, lessons plans, score study, kids’ health, and 1,000 other things, I never have undivided attention.
Instead, I do what I can. I allow my attention to flow, and amass as much as I can to work on a project. That’s how I got a set of vocalese lyrics written today between appointments, answered emails on rehearsal breaks with the Grand Rapids Symphony tonight, and last week designed body percussion for an arrangement while walking my dog.
If I say, “I’m waiting to give that my undivided attention,” I’ve just cursed it to be unfinished forever.
