So far, our school district has had fifteen – fifteen! – Snow Days in the 2018-19 school year.
But Snow Day is a catchall phrase. We have had school canceled due to:
- Snow
- Freezing rain
- High winds
- Glaze ice
- Sub-zero temperatures
- And even, in September, heat!
So it got me wondering, how often do I just label something with a catchall, without considering the specific reasoning.
Here are a few things easily labeled but with multiple causes:
- Choir is going flat.
- Singers are distracted/unfocused.
- Parts are not being learned.
- Phrasing is stilted.
- Performance is lackluster.
You can label it a Snow Day, but you should dig deeper and understand the root cause. Not all Snow Days are the same.
