In the heat of the moment, I often turn to common metaphors. But this often leaves me using sports analogies that don’t really fit my personality. So I’m taking time to intentionally learn some musical substitutes to those expressions. You might enjoy them, too:
Made it to the one yard line : Made it to the coda.
Full-Court Press : Full-orchestra tutti.
Dropped the ball : Missed the entrance.
Game, set, and match : Note, phrase, and piece.
The ball is in your court : It’s your turn to solo.
I doubt any will catch on, but it pleases me not to lean on sports metaphors quite so heavily.
Do you have any sports metaphors you overuse? What would be an arts-based substitute?
