The Broadway performers who succeed, long-term, again and again, don’t just love performing. They love the practice.
If you can’t find joy in the day-to-day work of honing your craft and improving you performance, you might succeed. But you won’t enjoy 90% of the job. That’s not sustainable.
If you love the practice as much as you love the successful performance, you can work in a sustainable way. You are enjoying yourself during the biggest part of your work.
I think this is true regardless of field. Can you take as much joy in the practice part of your work as you do in the performance? Can you shift your mindset to appreciate the practice as practice, not as the means to an end.
