A choir director’s skill set is diverse and includes many strengths that might be forgotten on résumés and other skill lists. For example, consider: logistics.
Human logistics and institutional logistics form a huge part of what you do.
- Transporting risers, keyboards and attire to and from performances.
- Making sure singers move cohesively on and off performance spaces.
- Teaching an ensemble to look, breathe, and interpret in unison.
- Planning an executing complex, multi-element programs from insight to performance, including perfecting diverse repertoire and staging elements.
- Leading volunteer organizations.
- Organizing fundraising, field trips, and other large-group activities.
This is to say nothing of the special logistics needed to plan and put on a school musical.
You, choir director, are a true expert at logistics. Don’t sell yourself short as you describe your areas of expertise.
