It’s The People

Yesterday we had our first (and last) Rockford Choirs concert of 2020-21. The Farewell Concert was also the get-to-know-you concert.

I feel incredibly lucky we got to have it at all. I hope beyond hope that I’ll never again take for granted the chance to make music with an audience.

Because the truth is, above all, that it’s for the audience. It’s the people. There is a palpable difference between singing for a camera to share later, and singing for an audience of listening ears.

Until we make music for people, the circle of the music is incomplete. It’s when we express our emotions through sounds, and someone else receives them through listening, that the choir becomes more than just a collection of people who like to sing. It becomes an instrument for changing the hearts of our community.

That’s what I’ve been waiting for, and that’s what I got to experience Sunday night. I can’t wait to make it a regular experience.
