If we never stumble, we aren’t moving forward.
That goes for individuals, and for ensembles, too. If your ensemble always meets expectations, with never a stumble, then you aren’t moving forward fast enough.
Yes, it hurts to skin your knee or twist your ankle – and it hurts to get a lackluster rating at festival or go terribly flat or forget the words on stage.
But those stumbles are the times when you learn. You learn what you’re made of, you learn how to get back up, and you learn what you did wrong.
Stumble. Acknowledge the stumble. Learn from it. And come back stronger.
