I Write To Find Out What I’m Thinking

“I write entirely to find out what I’m thinking, what I’m looking at, what I see and what it means. What I want and what I fear.”

Joan Didion

I learn what I think by writing it down, and it’s exactly the same when I’m writing music. With every bar I create, I learn more about what I like, what music means to me. That’s why exploration in composition is important to me, and why I continue to try new things. Just as the great Joan Didion continued to discover new things across decades of brilliant writing, I am still learning as I go. Learning about creation, but also using that creation to learn about myself.
