How often do you say “I made the wrong call” in the course of a school year?
Not to yourself, or to a confidant. How often do you say it to your singers, to your students.
As small as “I made a wrong call on the phrasing of this piece.”
As large as “I need to cancel a concert” or “We’re going to throw out the repertoire we’ve been working on.”
We all make wrong calls, small and large, all the time. Admitting them, first to ourselves and then to the people they affect, is the fastest way to move past them. It also has the added bonus of empowering your students to admit when they make wrong calls in their own lives, so that they can move past them more quickly, too.
