My family recently adopted a beautiful 6-year-old lab/Pyrenees mix. She’s a sweet dog, great with the family, and has integrated well into our home.
She also likes to walk at least four miles a day. I did not expect that.
But here I am, two months in, walking more with her – carving out that time from my daily schedule – because whether or not I expected it, it’s what’s happening. We’re not sending her back to be adopted again, and we aren’t going to change her needs.
Every choir, every concert season – even every piece! – they all come with moments of “I did not expect that.” It’s our job, in front of the choir, to recognize the need, adapt our own work, and solve the problem.
