This is the process for developing your leadership skills – whether you’re in middle school or a quarter century into your career. I used it today leading some young people embarking on new leadership positions.
- Make a definition of good and bad leadership. Reference actual leaders in your past.
- Identify specific strengths and weaknesses in your currently leadership.
- Set specific goals and find opportunities to work on those goals.
Leadership needs practice.
If this process looks familiar, it’s because it’s the same process for developing any skill.
- Define the skill.
- Identify your current status.
- Practice.
Leadership is a skill. Don’t think it’s not.
