With the Michigan Choral Commission Consortium (MC3), last year I commissioned Z. Randall Stroope’s SATB a cappella setting of Sara Teasdale’s “I Have Loved Hours At Sea.” It’s passionate, evocative, and lyrical – it ranks, to my mind, alongside his most beloved choral works.
The statewide premieres and performances of the works were significantly reduced by the onset of the pandemic lockdown, but several performances did happen, and I was able to coordinate a virtual choir, featuring 48 voices from consortium members across Michigan.
Now, Maestro Stroope has made the piece available for purchase so that choirs around the world can dig into this beautiful and profound piece. It’s available via his website with a reasonably priced bulk license. Do include this wonderful new piece in your repertoire!
