Want to achieve something down the road?
Don’t look forward to. Work backward from.
Say you want to sing a solo at your spring concert. Looking forward to standing onstage and singing isn’t nearly enough to get you there. You need to work backwards: performance >>> auditions >>> lessons/coaching >>> personal practice >>> start.
Too often, we look forward to something, then don’t put in the action to get there…we just kind of keep looking forward to it. Maybe that will work, but more often than not, we experience the profound disappointment of not getting to do something we were looking forward to. If only they had worked backwards instead, and started putting in the work when it would have made the difference.
