Not even a great performance is perfect. So what is forgivable?
The truth is, almost anything. A sour note? Sure. A mistaken lyric? No problem. A late light cue, sound cue, set change? No problem.
We’ll forgive almost anything provided 2 things:
- The performers are doing their best to deliver a well-prepared, excellent performance.
- They are telling the truth.
Truth and excellence are the essential underpinnings of any great performance, and with those two things, any details that don’t land are easily forgivable.
