What’s the best way to do your final listen of a mix you’re finalizing?
You might think it’s in the best available studio, or on a high-end stereo, or a pair of $1,000 headphones.
Those can all be great – especially earlier in the mix process. But when I’m finishing up, I want to listen where I most often listen to music. For me, that’s often been the car. Or on a pair of airbuds from my phone. The most important thing is that it’s how you regularly listen to music.
When I’m listening to my own mixes the way I listen to other music, I can suddenly pick up subtleties or differences that can be essential to finding the final touches for a mix.
