Choir retreats can be a lot of things – I can especially vouch for that, since my family has been involved in five over the last five weekends.
Choir retreats build:
- Emotional connection
- Vulnerability
- Trust
- Philosophical perspective
- Commonality
- Technical understanding
- Musicianship skills
Note that none of the above specifically reference the learning of music. Of course, that should be a part of it, but not necessarily the primary piece.
And yet, a choir retreat should end singing. It’s why we’re all here – to sing together. The best retreats I experience are only a little bit about group music-making, but they end with it.
