Ease In-Impossible

“I wish I could just ease in to the next level of responsibility.”

So said my son recently, but so says everyone at one point or another.

The problem is, that’s not how trust and responsibility work. Once you’ve attained the next level, all of the weight of the next level rests on your shoulders.

It might not feel fair, or right, or bearable. But that’s how it always works.

Same for first-year teachers, new parents, for freshmen in college, first time pet-owners, and married couples in their first year of marriage. It’s always the same.

It would be nice to ease in to the next level. But that’s impossible.
