Alice Parker’s 90th Birthday celebration this year has included lots of festivities including Chorus America, the Harvard Glee Club Medal, and more. You can read her most recent newsletter here.
Most importantly, her nonprofit, Melodious Accord, is sponsoring a major celebration with the hashtag #AliceIs90. They want you to sing a Parker piece at a concert this year, post the video online, and let them know.
Her birthday is December 16, which is right around the time of many choral Christmas concerts. If you are looking for one last piece to finish program, consider checking her online database. Look in your own files – I’ll bet most people have some Parker/Shaw Christmas arrangements waiting to be pulled out. Her database shows nearly 70 Christmas works.
Click here to let Melodious Accord know you’ll be doing it, and then send them the video link after.
Maybe something like this:
I’ll be doing The Boar’s Head Carol with The Rockford Aces, as well as at least one or two more Parker pieces through the rest of this school year. Join me in celebrating this amazing musician and human being.
