Do The Less Urgent First

When I try to queue posts for my website, I often have trouble getting ahead – writing for a far away deadline is tough when I have a daily deadline to deal with, too. It’s easy to put off the less urgent piece, get busy doing other things, and only complete one of the two things I need to do.

That got easier when I committed to doing the less urgent one first. In short, I don’t write today’s post until I’ve already queued one for down the road.

Suddenly, it’s easier to stay ahead, because I’ve made my daily deadline apply to both things. In essence, I’ve made an imminent deadline apply to something less urgent.

It won’t work for everything, but this approach has merit in situations where you have already budgeted time for both things but want to avoid procrastinating.
