Do you want to hear an artist perform live just like the record?
There are some artists you want to see live because they live up to what’s on the record. They make their recordings come to life.
Other artists take the music they have recorded and transform it into something new in their concerts.
Both can be fantastic. If I were to get Taylor Swift tickets, I’d want to hear my favorite songs just as I knew them, so I could sing along and create a visual memory for the records I know.
When I hear Jacob Collier, as I did last night, I want to hear his explore the edges of his songs, to craft something new and fresh within the parameters of his songs.
In either case, coming in with the wrong expectations is a chance to be disappointed. And an open mind gives you the chance to experience something inspiring.
