I could never write in a coffee shop. Because my creativity has some demands.
I can write in the morning, I can write at night. I can write all over my house. I can write regardless of the weather. What I can’t do is write with conversations going on around me. Indeed, even background music is enough to disrupt the tenuous flow of words.
Everyone has their own list of creative roadblocks – things they can’t be creative while experiencing. Some have really serious ones, or a lot of roadblocks that create a really narrow path to successful creation. For me, I’m glad that my preconditions are relatively minimal.
I’ve learned to be use creativity as a muscle, rather than wait for inspiration to strike. And I’ve then learned to recognize and accept my creativity’s demands – quiet.
With those two things, I have a lot of faith in my creativity to support me along the road.
