We want to prioritize everything, but that’s really the same as prioritizing nothing.
I love writing–it’s how I stay grounded and connected. It’s how I express my creative soul.
But I love my family more. When it comes down to it, I have learned to fit my creative work around my highest priority, which is being a foundation for my family.
Alice Parker described to me the way she would write when her children were still at home – writing in her head, while doing dishes, and then if she was lucky stealing an hour at the piano.
This is what I aspire to: a creatively fulfilled life in the spaces I can find.
And if you’ll excuse me, my early-rising seven-year-old just asked me to play Monopoly. Happy Sunday!
