Some of the team building strategies are way out of my personal comfort zone. Things like Karaoke or Lip Sync Battles – things that appeal to extroverts but not to a committed introvert like me.
Nevertheless, I provide opportunities and even participate myself. Why? Because breadth is needed in team building. Breadth to assure that the team is supported, even the ones who respond to different types of opportunities than I do. (Introvert Team Building ©: group reading in separate corners of the room.)
I always do a “solo club” at my retreats – everyone brings a song. And I always sing something, and start off the show, precisely because it’s so far out of my wheel house.
I might not feel energized by the chance to sing a solo, or have a dance party, or sing karaoke, but I know that other members of the choir do. I make those opportunities available because I know that it will support them where they are.
