I know a lot of choir directors–a lot of professionals in general–who every year try to do a little more. Add one more educational activity, add one more community-outreach performance, add one more piece to the repertoire.
What if, instead of more, you focused on better?
Make the moments more teachable, rather than add to them. Make the performances stellar rather than add more. Polish the pieces you do rather than add more semi-polished music.
Make the hours count more.
We can do better and do more, but with limited hours in our year, it might make sense to take an entire school year to concentrate your energy on making the work you do better, rather than more.
