Teachers get a few chances during the year to start again.
Winter Break. Spring Break. Maaaaaybe Thanksgiving Break. Anytime there’s been long enough to do at least a brief reset. Even then, the resets we are able to execute are small, a matter of degrees.
- Include a few extra minutes of sight reading.
- Speed up the transitions from warm-ups to rehearsing.
- Take a few extra minutes for personal connection during class.
- Find 5 minutes for class listening or another activity for building common musical references.
There are any number of small ways you can make rehearsal more effective, and a brief break is the perfect time to execute.
