I find a lot of success in batch processing. A good example is designing social media cover photos for our entire concert season at once. Today, I was able to quickly design a tiny workflow, so that each photo was created more quickly than the last.
If I had waited until a week before each concert to create these designs, I would have forgotten my workflow, and my total time spent would have been greater.
I think batch processing like this can be effectively applied to so many things we do, both professionally and personally. It works particularly well when the transition time from one task to another is significant, and in tasks you don’t perform often enough to maintain your skills. (For example, I don’t need to batch process my copyediting of musical works, because I’m always using my notation software. But I do batch process tasks within that process – aligning all expressive elements, then all dynamics, etc.)
Batch processing saves time and improves outcomes; what are tasks you perform that would benefit from batching?
