How often do you have your students present true background music?
Today was one of my first times, actually. Shades of Blue sang the jazz standards they had worked during a retirement celebration. There were numerous conversations happening the entire time they sang, and most of the applause they received was from each other.
I actually thought it was a great educational moment, and one I wouldn’t mind repeating. Performing in that scenario is a staple of professional gigging musicians, and it requires different comportment, stage presence, even musical choices. It’s highly worth practicing.
