Nine years on, the MSVMA All-State Jazz Choir is flourishing!
It has been a labor of love for me since years before it even existed – planning meetings, strategies, long days, sleepless nights, and a lot of learning how do to it right.
This year, we had the finest edition yet. We had auditions from the most singers and from the most schools ever, and the twenty selected (from eleven schools) were the most prepared when they walked in the door. Our conductor gave the students a fantastic musical experience, and in the end they all gave a fantastic final performance.
I’m incredibly proud of what MSVMA has built, creating a brand new opportunity to expose students to America’s art music. I’m hopeful for the future, and grateful to have been a part of keeping this experience available to Michigan high school students.
