Alice Parker Repertoire Week

Alice Parker left a singularly rich legacy of choral music. She’s known best for her settings of folk tunes, and rightfully so – she elevated them even as she remained honest and true to the source material. But her repertoire includes multiple operas, song cycles, original pieces, and more.

This week, I’m paying homage to her repertoire by selecting a few pieces that I think exemplify her writing style. I’ll talk about the arrangement, give links to publishers and recordings, and try to get to the heart of why her remarkable writing deserves to continue to be sung by choirs across the world.

Stay tuned for a week of fantastic repertoire, starting tomorrow with one I’m particularly close to.
