I love the story of Accent. From what I’ve observed, six vocal harmony nerds from five countries met online and have used technology to enable them to make amazing music together. They belong to the post-Puerling/Fischer tradition of great, rich harmony, often moving incredibly quickly.
Their new Christmas album, Christmas All The Way, has just come out, and they have taken their success and turned it into a great album with remarkable collaborators including Arturo Sandoval, Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band, Jorge Calandrelli, Don Shelton, and more.
I can’t recommend this group highly enough – they’re doing it right, and even though they aren’t even all located on the same continent, they are taking their work seriously and using their success to make more and more ambitious music.
Above is their version of the classic Swedish carol Jul, Jul, Strålande Jul as arranged by their own tenor 2, Simon Åkesson of Sweden.
