Here, I suggest you take a page from skilled politicians. If you watch or listen to much politics, you’ll often hear an reporter ask a clear, detailed questions…only to hear the politician answer a completely different question. The question they want to answer.
What question do you want to answer about your future? Instead of answering the career questions you might have trouble navigating, simply pivot like a politician into the conversation you want to have.
